Welcome to the Margaret River Touring Company…and the ‘finest office I’ve ever had!’
A new lifestyle and sea change was in the wings after years on the corporate treadmill solving creative challenges in the ‘Madman World of Advertising & Marketing.’ Many a meeting, demanding clients, crazy deadlines, stress, laughs, lots of travel, long lunches, early starts and late nights…‘eat your heart out Don Draper!’
One helluva jump from the crazy, city bound world of Advertising as an Art/ Creative Director in Auckland, Sydney, Cape Town, London, New York & Perth…to little ‘ol Margaret River. Not a traffic light in sight! A ‘Deadline’ down here means the fish ain’t biting today. ‘Fresh, home-grown, healthy food’ for the week is from the Farmer’s Market. Stress is now cleaning the trusty Landy for tomorrow’s Wine & Adventure Tour!
Intersperse this with 10 years of Ski bumming thru’ New Zealand, Australia, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Austria, Japan & Canada… you soon realise, life’s too short to not have fun! Venturing into a new life of outdoor Adventure, wonderful Wine, fabulous food and surfing world class waves was a no-brainer! What a ‘lifestyle’ and an ideal opportunity to showcase it to the rest of the world…why didn’t I think of this earlier?
Actually been visiting Margaret River for over 35 years – spent years cruising down off-road trails, chasing waves, fishing, diving, exploring and camping out! All the time developing wonderful local friendships with fellow escapees, sea changers, travellers, wine tragics, surfers, farmers, restauranteurs, hippies, artists and like-minded crazy souls.
Guests often reflect about the ‘Corporate merry-go-round’ on my Tours. Amazing how a day of wine tasting, adventure, fresh sea air, fabulous food and a few laughs relaxes my Guests. The ‘Ol Margaret River, laid back lifestyle’ – more funky cruise than rat-race.
With my wife involved in the local Arts, an eldest Wine making son with Degrees/Honours from UWA/Roseworthy in Viticulture & Oenology’ and a younger son, the family gypsy, spending years chasing waves on the WQS World Professional Surfing circuit and now coaching WA’s elite Juniors…the “Jewel in the Crown that is Margs, is a pretty nice part of the world to hang your hat!”
